The Nook Neurodevelopmental Clinic offers a multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosing children and adults with ASD and ADHD.
Our clinic was founded by Dr Selina Warlow, a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience, and she works with a team of experts, including Speech and Language Therapists.
Dr Warlow worked across mental health services for the NHS and The Priory, and she is passionate about helping children and adults achieve the correct diagnosis.
Once an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis is in place, individuals and their families can better understand the challenges they face, so they can access the right support and find appropriate ways to manage issues. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a name used for a broad diagnostic category of behavioural and development challenges that affect individuals from childhood to adulthood. Studies show that it affects one in 100 people in the UK.
ASD will affect different people in various ways, and every autistic person will have their own social communication and behavioural profile. We provide reliable autism diagnostic assessments using the gold standard of autism assessment tools.
We have a special interest in autism in girls. Historically, females with autism often go undiagnosed because they are better at masking their symptoms. Autism specialists now understand that girls have been overlooked. Our team has a wide range of experiences diagnosing girls and women with autism.
Child autism assessments
Our evaluation process for diagnosing children with autism takes a multi-disciplinary approach and involves several steps. This includes questionnaires, a school report, and an Autism Diagnosis Interview Revised (ADI-R) over Zoom.
Our clinicians will then complete an ADOS-2, a standardised assessment of communication, play, social interaction and repetitive behaviours. This will take place at our clinic and takes around one hour.
Adult autism assessments
As with our child autism assessments, our adult autism screenings are in line with NICE guidelines and align with the same work we complete for the NHS.
There is a straightforward process with a number of stages, including questionnaires, an Autism Diagnosis Interview Revised (ADI-R), and a formal ADOS-2, which is multi disciplinary.
ADHD assessments for children Berkshire
Does your child show signs of hyperactivity or attention deficit? We also offer private assessments for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) – hyperactive impulsive and inattentive types.
Most cases of ADHD present themselves when children are young. Once a diagnosis has been made, we provide parents/carers with recommendations for support.
Our ADHD assessments are in line with NICE guidelines. They include questionnaires for parents or carers and an account from a child’s school. We will then complete a developmental history with parents and a one-hour face-to-face assessment to complete a QB check.
As with all assessments, we will issue you a report outlining our findings and recommendations for future support.
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) assessments Berkshire
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum where individuals go to extremes to avoid or ignore anything that is seen as a demand. It can interfere heavily with activities at home or school.
It is not currently recognised in the many tools for diagnosing autism, so we cannot make a separate diagnosis. However, if a child presents with a PDA profile, this will be included in any assessment report and diagnosis.
