Autism and ADHD Assessment Services in Oxford

Specialist Neurodevelopmental Assessments for Children and Adults

Based in Summertown Oxford, The Nook Neurodevelopmental Clinic offers expert assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for both children and adults. Our clinic provides a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis and support, ensuring a tailored experience for every individual.

Our founder, Dr. Selina Warlow, is a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in mental health and neurodiversity. She leads a dedicated team of specialists, including Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, all committed to providing a thorough and compassionate assessment process.

Dr. Warlow has worked across prominent mental health services, including the NHS and The Priory, and is deeply passionate about guiding individuals and families through the assessment and diagnostic journey. We understand that seeking a diagnosis can be a challenging process, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Whether you receive a diagnosis of ASD or ADHD, or not, we will provide clear guidance, recommendations for ongoing support, and help you understand what this means for you or your child. If a diagnosis isn’t reached, we still offer practical advice and resources to aid in managing the challenges you may face.

ADHD Assessments in Oxford for Children and Adults

At The Nook Neurodevelopmental Clinic, we offer comprehensive ADHD assessments for both children and adults, covering all ADHD presentations (inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive, and combined).

Our assessments follow NICE guidelines (the same guidelines used by the NHS) and include the use of gold-standard tools like the QB Check and ACE Assessment. If a diagnosis is confirmed, we will provide clear, actionable recommendations to help you or your child manage ADHD. Should the results not meet the diagnostic threshold, we will still offer valuable guidance and strategies for ongoing support.

For children, we collect information from parents/carers and schools, and complete a developmental history with the family/carers. Adults will undergo a detailed interview. This is followed by a face-to-face QB Check — a computerised assessment that evaluates attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

After the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining our findings and tailored recommendations. We strive to ensure the assessment process is as smooth and supportive as possible.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment in Oxford for Children and Adults

If you’re seeking an Autism assessment for yourself or your child, we offer gold-standard assessments based on the NICE guidelines, ensuring the process is clear, supportive, and thorough.

Our assessments involve completing questionnaires for parents, carers, and schools (for children), and directly with individuals (for adults). We will then conduct a detailed developmental history (ADI-R assessment), followed by a face-to-face evaluation using the ADOS-2, which is the leading tool for assessing autism.

Once the evaluation is complete, we will provide a comprehensive report with tailored recommendations. We also offer a feedback session to go over the results, answer any questions, and provide further clarity on next steps.

We recognise that individuals with ASD may sometimes mask their difficulties, which is why we gather information from multiple sources to ensure a complete and accurate picture of the individual’s experience.

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) Assessments in Oxford

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a profile seen in some individuals on the autism spectrum. Individuals with PDA may avoid or resist demands due to heightened anxiety, often leading to significant challenges in daily life, both at home and in educational settings.

Although PDA is not currently recognised as a separate diagnosis, it is considered a profile within the autism spectrum. If an individual presents with a PDA profile, we will include this in the final assessment report and diagnostic feedback.
