Child and adult autism assessments Surrey

Our services: Autism diagnostic evaluation in Surrey

We understand that it can be daunting to reach out for help. More than one in 100 people are diagnosed with autism, and this can present itself in different ways. Our Surrey clinicians complete a full range of autism diagnostic services for children, young people or adults of both sexes.

Autism in girls is different to autism in boys because symptoms manifest themselves differently. Recent studies have shown that girls and women can hide their difficulties because they are more socially driven and aware and are, therefore, more likely to be overlooked. We have a lot of experience diagnosing girls and women with ASD and factor additional questions into any autism screening.

Child autism assessment

Our multi-disciplinary autism screenings and assessments follow a series of steps, including screening questionnaires and an Autism Diagnosis Interview Revised (ADI-R), completed via Zoom.

This is followed by a formal assessment, which takes place at our Farnham clinic. Our reports will detail recommendations for future support and can be used to apply for an education, health and care (EHC) plan.

Adult autism assessment

As with our autism diagnoses for children, our adult assessment is designed to accurately diagnose autism and aligns with NICE guidelines and reports written by the NHS.

There will be questionnaires sent out before any meeting to complete, followed by an ADI-R and formal assessment. This takes place face-to-face and involves a social communication assessment (ADOS-2), considered the Gold Standard for diagnosing ASD.

ADHD assessments for children in Surrey

We provided ADHD assessments for children in Surrey. An Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD) diagnosis can often bring clarity and relief.

As with our ASD diagnoses, all ADHD testing and evaluation is in line with NHS practice and involves a multi-disciplinary approach. We carry out screening questionnaires for parents and carers and also speak to your child’s school so they can fill out a descriptive account.

We will then organise a time to complete a developmental history with parents over Zoom before conducting an observational assessment and QB check. Our detailed report will include recommendations for future support. We do not work with psychiatrists, so we cannot prescribe medications for ADHD.

PDA assessments Surrey

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a profile on the autism spectrum where individuals are driven to avoid demands to control their anxiety and help them feel more in control.

Individuals with PDA share common traits and difficulties with people on the autism spectrum in terms of communication and some behaviours. We do not make a separate diagnosis for PDA because it does not appear separately in diagnostic manuals, such as ICD-10 or DSM-V. However, we are able to include a PDA profile within any report.
